10 Rules for Electronic Banking Users

Please follow these 10 measures to prevent financial incidents and leakage of personal financial information to unauthorized parties.

Be sure to install the security programs provided by banks/financial institutions.

Security programs provided by your electronic financial services provider will be installed when connected to the respective website. Do not interrupt the installation process or stop the installed program’s execution. If programs do not install automatically, install them manually according to instructions before making any electronic financial transactions. This is to prevent the disclosure of your personal information to others.

Do not store personal financial information in a wallet, notebook, or other places that can be easily accessed by an outside party, and do not disclose the information to anyone (including employees of financial institutions).

Never write your personal financial information in a wallet, notebook, or other object that can easily get lost. Never disclose your personal financial information to third parties including those alleging to be a bank employee, especially if you are not speaking to an employee at a counter. Banks will never ask for your personal financial information on the phone or via email.

Create different passwords for bank accounts and digital certificates, and change them regularly.

Never use a birthdate, phone number, or other personal numbers for passwords. Use the longest possible password in combination of letters and numbers. Change passwords regularly to minimize the chances of someone guessing your password.

Enter the URL of a financial institution directly or use bookmarks/favorites.

If you click a link in a spam email or on online forums or loan solicitations, you may be redirected to a site attempting to obtain your personal and/or financial information. For this reason, enter bank website addresses or create a bookmark/favorite.

Use mobile text-messaging services that notify you of electronic financial transactions.

Banks and other financial service providers offer real-time notifications via text messages or email for electronic transactions such as credit card use and account transfers. Please use these services and report any unauthorized access to your account.

Store digital certificates in a removable storage device such as a USB drive or smart card.

A digital certificate is an important means to confirm identification. To minimize the risk of hacking, we recommend using a removable storage device such as a USB drive or smart card rather than storing a digital certificate on your computer’s hard drive. By using a removable storage device, you can conduct banking transactions on any computer. However, be sure to exercise care to prevent the loss of your removable storage device.

Avoid online banking in public places such as Internet cafés.

Shared public computers may be infected by malware or viruses and are vulnerable to hacking Conducting online banking on public/shared computers increases the risk of personal and financial information leakage. Avoid online banking in public spaces.

Use anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and update Windows with the latest security revisions.

Install anti-virus and anti-spyware programs on your computer and set them to automatically update when the PC is turned on. Be sure to install Windows security revisions to block hackers and viruses that exploit vulnerabilities and enable the Windows Automatic Updates feature to protect against the latest hacking methods. *For details, see Information Security Tips 1( http://www.boho.or.kr)Reference
