Precautions for Changing Contact Information (mobile number, email address, etc.)

Always manage your passwords with care.

  • When registering on other websites, set a password different from those for your digital certificate, bank account, and bank cards. Do not share your password with anyone including employees of banks/financial institutions.
  • Do not use numbers that are easily guessed such as date of birth, phone number, or apartment number.
  • The following types of passwords cannot be used.

Numbers in a sequence 1234, 2345, 3456, 7654, 4321, etc.
The same 4-digit sequence found in the Resident Registration Number of a personal account If the Resident Registration Number is 720921-1234567 → 7209, 0921, 4567
The same 4-digit sequence found in the Business Registration Number of a corporate account If the Business Registration Number is 123-45-67890 → 1234, 7890

The same 4-digit sequence found in the principal's phone, fax, or other contact number If the phone number is 02-787-6189 → 0278, 7876, 6189

Be alert for phishing sites.

  • To avoid deception by a 'phishing' site that imitates a real bank website, try checking your account balance before conducting any financial transactions.
  • Balance inquiries cannot be serviced on fraudulent bank sites.

Store your digital certificate(s) on a removable storage device such as a USB drive.

  • A digital certificate is an electronic signature/seal used in online banking as an ID and as proof of transaction.
  • To protect against hacking, store your digital certificate(s) on a removable storage device such as a USB drive.
  • Never store digital certificates in your email inbox or on shared websites such as portals and cloud storage.

Be sure to enable automatic security updates on your PC's security program.

  • Be sure to enable the Windows Automatic Updates feature to protect against the latest hacking methods.
  • By enabling the feature just once, you can use the Internet securely and conveniently via automatic security updates.

Be sure to use mobile phone SMS text-message notification services.

  • Prevent possible financial fraud by using the SMS notification service. It alerts you of e-banking transactions (transfer, credit card use, etc.) in real-time so you are aware of any unauthorized activity.

Take extra care with your financial safety. Visit the respective financial institution(s) for more information.

  • Be aware of fraudulent attempts to mimic institutions like the Public Prosecutors' Office, National Tax Service, Financial Supervisory Service, or National Health Insurance Corp. to obtain personal financial information such as account numbers or get you to operate an ATM.

Be aware of refund-type frauds relying on the Internet, phone, or ATMs.

  • Ads pleading instant loans regardless of credit, unusually favorable terms, or request advance deposits in return for a loan are likely to be fraudulent. Contact the customer service center of the respective financial institution to verify the validity of such claims.

Always manage your safety card with care and use a secure OTP whenever possible.

  • Take care to keep your security card secure and do not store an image of the card on your PC or your passwords in PC files. Doing so may lead to electronic financial security breaches.
  • Using an OTP is more secure than a security card for electronic financial transactions.

Never share financial details and information in an online 'messenger' conversation.

  • Due to their limited security, the contents of a messenger dialogue can be hacked and leaked out to others. Never give out financial information (account numbers, passwords, etc.) during a messenger conversation.

Precautions for Internet Banking

  • Immediately notify your financial institution of leakage of any personal information used in electronic financial transactions. Change passwords regularly (every 3 months).
  • Always log out after using online banking. Always log out after completing transactions to prevent the disclosure of personal financial information to unauthorized persons.
  • Avoid conducting online banking in public places where your information may be exposed. If unavoidable, take extra care not to disclose your account number(s) and password(s), and in particular, your digital certificate(s).
  • In addition, delete all relevant information when finished.
  • Keep your receipts from financial transactions and check account balances and transaction history regularly through online and offline methods to prevent unauthorized transactions.
  • To minimize the risk of fraud, set appropriate transaction limits for transfers and payments.
  • To prevent security breaches, install and periodically run an anti-virus program on the PC that you use for online banking transactions.
